Four area high school seniors have been named recipients of the 2011 Young Women of Distinction Awards, presented by the Greater Rochester Women's Council, an affiliate of the Rochester Business Alliance.

One winner was chosen in each of the following geographic categories:

  • City of Rochester: Elena Rebholz, School of the Arts;
  • Eastside Suburban Monroe County: Amy Keech, Penfield High School;
  • Westside Suburban Monroe County: Rachel Siciliano, Brockport High School;
  • Regional: Danielle Stoner, Gananda's Ruben A. Cirillo High School in Wayne County.
Each student was awarded a $2,000 college scholarship as well as an opportunity for a paid internship at either Susan B. Anthony House, PAETEC Holding Corp., Paychex, Rochester Rotary, University of Rochester Center for Community health or one of the Van Bortel auto dealerships.

The four young women were selected from 20 finalists culled from 86 nominations from around the region. Each of the 20 finalists also received gift cards and an internship opportunity.

  • Emily Chen, Penfield High School
  • Jacqueline Marie Corbett, Canandaigua Academy
  • Brigit Falcon, Fairport High School
  • Marguerite Frarey, School of the Arts
  • Amanda Ghysel, School of the Arts
  • Gina Grasso, Wheatland-Chili High School
  • Marissa Lee, Penfield High School
  • Clarice Lin, Pittsford Sutherland High School
  • Kimmily Lopez, Monroe High School
  • Molly Snell-Larch, School of the Arts
  • Jenna Steensma, Wayne Central High School
  • Chavon Q. Thomas, East High School
  • Shannon Toot, Greece Arcadia High School
  • Andrea Weidman, Webster Schroeder High School
Young Women of Distinction, modeled on the prestigious ATHENA Award, recognizes area high school seniors who have demonstrated superior academic performance, community service and leadership qualities.

The awards were presented this evening at a dessert reception at the Rochester Radisson Hotel downtown. The keynote speaker was the 2011 ATHENA recipient, Kitty Van Bortel, president of the Van Bortel auto dealerships.

Major sponsors of the event were the E. Philip Saunders College of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology, KPMG LLP, UBS Financial, Woods Oviatt Gilman LLP, DDS Companies and past ATHENA recipients.
