McDonald Springs, started in 1983 by its president, Jim McDonald, is a privately held large vehicle service company, which provides truck suspension repair and replacement services, from pick-ups to dump trucks. Its proud history dates back four generations to Jim's great-grandfather, James McDonald's blacksmith shop in Greenfield, Mass. which provided iron tires and springs for horsedrawn wagons.

In 1995, Jim developed new services: sales and service of truck mounted hydraulic equipment and building fl at bed truck bodies. MSR employs factory-certifi ed technicians for Cleasby Conveyors, IMT cranes and service bodies, Hiab and Fassi cranes and forklifts. MSR continues to expand its truck mounted equipment business, selling new equipment and parts across New York and the northeast.

New Developments
McDonald Springs, which employs six locally, recently introduced two new product lines. They now represent a line of log loading cranes and grapples, to cover everything from the small landscaper to major logging operations. McDonald Springs also added a line of fiberglass utility truck bodies to their fleet.

The most recent and major development with MSR is the building of their new facility. After a devastating fire in December 2007 MSR built a state-of-the-art, 10,000 sq ft. facility that has six truck bays, 68 feet deep, with an indoor overhead crane, that allows them to service trucks or trailers regardless of size.

Challenges
"One of our largest challenges at this time is rebuilding our customer base after moving back into our permanent location," says McDonald. "After working out of a small, temporary shop during our reconstruction, we are getting the word out we are back using radio advertising and direct sales. And with the present condition of the economy, we are constantly looking for ways to give our customers the added value they need to survive in this challenging economic environment."

Rochester Business Alliance Member
MSR has been a member of the Rochester Business Alliance for two years. "As a member of the RBA we have access to business issues at the local level where it matters the most. The RBA then gives its members a voice at the state level that would be difficult at best for a single small business. They offer business seminars and excellent business to business networking opportunities."
