Results of a recent survey will allow Rochester area employers to see how the wages they are paying their employees measure up against regional trends.

The Rochester Business Alliance's Business Information division recently surveyed member companies on salary and bonus information for manufacturing, non-exempt, professional/managerial and health care employees. Some 196 companies, employing more than 94,300 workers, responded to one or more of those surveys, reporting on more than 330 jobs, including those in administration, finance, human resource, information technology, customer service, sales and marketing, health care and production.

The survey data is broken out by industry and employment size, as well as by geography - Monroe County and other counties. All data collected is for full-time positions.

"While the recession has been difficult on both employers and employees, once business conditions improve, it will be even more important for employers to be able to attract new employees and retain existing employees through the use of competitive benchmarking practices," said Barbara J. Cutrona, vice president of Business Information and Training at the Rochester Business Alliance.

"These are the most comprehensive local wage surveys available in the region and are a helpful benchmarking tool for employers."

For example, respondents to the 2009 Manufacturing Wage Survey reported that the average hourly rate paid for a manufacturing job is $15.36 per hour, up from $14.59 in 2008.

In addition to the Wage and Salary Surveys, the Rochester Business Alliance conducts several other benchmarking surveys each year. For information on these and other surveys, contact Kathy Novak, Director of Research & Surveys at (585) 258-4618.
