Parker's Predictions for 2009

1. Caroline Kennedy will replace Hillary Clinton as New York's junior senator.
2. The NYS budget will not be completed by March 1, as Gov. Paterson hopes, but will be in place by the legally required date of April 1.
3. Renaissance Square will move ahead, with groundbreaking for the Monroe Community Campus and the transportation center and continued fundraising for the performing arts center.
4. Bob Duffy will not be opposed in a primary and will be re-elected by a landslide for a second term as Rochester's mayor.
5. Jean-Claude Brizard's efforts to reform the city schools will begin to show payoff with the graduation rate rising above 50 percent.
6. The state Legislature will adopt a cap on school property taxes.
7. You will be able to buy wine in a grocery store here before the end of year.
8. The 2010 race for NYS governor will heat up, with Republican candidates Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg throwing their hats into the race.
9. One of our region's Republican state senators will change enrollments to become part of the Democratic majority in that house.
