For the past several years, Rochester Business Alliance has convened community leaders representing business, local government, education and nonprofits to develop a community agenda for Rochester.
The Rochester Community Coalition had its beginnings in 2006 as the Rochester Fair Share Coalition, an organization that lobbied state government for a much-needed boost in state aid for the City of Rochester. Given the success of that campaign -2 ,150 letters faxed to government leaders in Albany, calling for Rochester to get a fair share under the state Aid and Incentives to Municipalities program and a resulting $17.9 million aid increase to the city - the coalition opted to adopt a broader agenda: Our community's annual priorities for state funding.
To establish those priorities, the Rochester Business Alliance meets with leaders of various community institutions and puts suggested items before the coalition. The initiatives identified help to spur economic development and job growth in our region.
