The Women's Council of the Rochester Business Alliance is seeking nominations for its 12th annual Young Women of Distinction Award.
The award honors girls in their senior year of high school who have demonstrated superior academic performance, along with community service and leadership, and is open to candidates in the nine-county Rochester region, which includes Monroe, Ontario, Livingston, Wayne, Orleans, Genesee, Seneca, Wyoming and Yates counties.
All finalists will be recognized at an event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 23 at the Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside. Keynote speaker will be Kitty Van Bortel, president of Van Bortel Subaru and Van Bortel Ford, and the 2011 ATHENA Award recipient.
Four top recipients of the Young Women of Distinction (one in each from the city of Rochester, suburban east, suburban west and regional school districts) will receive a $2,000 scholarship plus an opportunity for a paid internship at an area company. Another 20 finalists will also receive a prize.
