We asked Mark Cole, president, to talk about his business. Question: Tell me briefly about M & T Trucking. Cole: The company was founded in 1986 and is located in Pavilion, NY. We started out with one truck and trailer. Due to our expansion in 2006, we have increased our fleet to 73 trucks and 115 trailers. We primarily transport garbage, feed, agricultural commodities and large equipment.
Question: What differentiates M & T Trucking from its competitors? Cole: Customer service is our number one priority. We provide good, reliable service. Our loads are delivered on time, our equipment is in excellent condition and our scheduled times are met.
Question: How has your company been able to grow to achieve its ranking on the Top 100? Cole: We have obtained several long term contracts. As a result of our excellent service to our customers, we retain their business and obtain additional work due to customer referrals.
Question: What would you like to see happen in our region, and in our state, to help businesses thrive? Cole: Better accessibility to the state agencies and the information they provide. Additional relief or incentives in regards to state and local taxes. Provide or change state regulations to be more business-friendly.
Question: What trends are you seeing among your customers in terms of preferences? Cole: They expect competitive rates and good service.
Question: What are the biggest opportunities you see ahead, as well as the biggest challenges? Cole: The biggest opportunities will be in obtaining additional long term contracts which will result in more consistent, year round work. The biggest challenge will be overcoming the fuel prices and increased truck costs due to higher emission standards.
