Schottland: American Packaging Corporation is an integrated flexible packaging converter that services the food, beverage, medical, personal care, household, pet food, agricultural chemical, lawn & garden and other specialty markets. American Packaging Corporation is committed to providing the highest levels of quality, service, innovation and technical support to its customers. Our capabilities include 10 color rotogravure & 10 color flexographic printing, adhesive & extrusion laminating, heat seal and cold seal coating and preformed pouches and bags with a variety of special features. American Packaging Corporation is a full-service flexible packaging converter. Packaging is our only business!
Question: Where are most of your clients based? Schottland: Most of our customers are based throughout the United States and Canada.
Question: What differentiates American Packaging Corporation from its competitors? Schottland: Our Customer Satisfaction is second to none in our industry. We are a mid sized company; however, we service our customers as if we were a much smaller organization. Our flexibility and dedication to customer service has become a part of our culture and allows us to respond to customer needs on a moment's notice. Our larger competitors are no where near as nimble and agile in meeting customer needs, and that has helped us win many new accounts. We also have a workforce that is one of the most talented and dedicated in the industry. Our leadership solicits the input of our employees to continually improve our operations to maximize safety, reduce waste, and improve productivity.
Question: What does it mean to your business to be on the Top 100? Schottland: As a Rochester Area employer, receiving the Rochester 100 recognition is a great honor and a testament to the hard work our employees have put forth to help grow our business and ensure our future.
Question: What value do you find in your Rochester Business Alliance membership? Schottland: The Rochester Business Alliance has been a great resource for training, research, and related needs of our company. We have utilized Rochester Business Alliance services on a regular basis over the years and results have been very good.
Question: What are the best things about doing business in Rochester? Schottland: Rochester has talented people for skilled and unskilled positions, which has enabled our business growth over the past several years.
APC has a strong connection with RIT - this partnership has benefited both organizations. APC has hired several people out of the Packaging Science School for both internships and permanent positions.
Rochester has so much to offer outside of work - arts and cultural activities, community activities, playing and watching sports and outdoor activities for all seasons.
Question: What advice do you have for someone starting a small/new business here? Schottland: Surround yourself with very talented people. Give them information and authority so that they can make decisions on their own. Have fun at what you do. Make sure to keep yourself balanced between work and play.
