RBA Board Secretary Receives Rotary Award

Matthew Augustine, Rochester Business Alliance board secretary and president and CEO of Eltrex Industries, received the 75th Rochester Rotary Award. Augustine is a former Rochester Black Business Association president, current RBBA member and Rochester Business Hall of Fame member. He has been an active member of civic and neighborhood groups and serves on numerous boards. Augustine will be presented with the award at a luncheon on Dec. 4. | Business After Hours: Holiday Jam - Dec. 11

The Rochester Business Alliance's most popular Business After Hours networking event - the Holiday Jam - is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Attendees will have a chance to win door prizes. The Holiday Jam features a Business After Hours Mini Trade Show which gives members an opportunity to showcase their business in front of numerous potential customers. Fifth Bills Tickets Winner Announced |
Our fifth Bills Tickets Raffle winner was Marcia Koch, accounting manager at Four Corners Abstract, who won four tickets for seats in the One Communications Club at Ralph Wilson Stadium for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots. Koch was chosen in a random drawing from 768 employees of Rochester Business Alliance member companies.
Members still have a chance to get in on the action. We'll be holding raffles for two more home games (Miami Dolphins and New York Giants). This raffle has proven to be our most popular member benefit yet, so watch your e-mails for details on the start of each raffle. |

The Greater Rochester Quality Council has launched its new web site. Visitors can easily navigate through the site's information including easy-to-find information on sector teams, event listing and membership. | Celebrate the SBC's 25th Anniversary and Holiday Party - Nov. 29

This year, the Small Business Council's holiday party will give attendees an extra reason to celebrate - their 25th anniversary of serving and supporting small businesses in the Rochester area! The holiday party is a must-attend for those who want to stay up to date with the latest happenings in the business community. Enjoy an evening complete with a grazing menu, refreshments and music by Jazznik. Attendees also have the opportunity to view all the standing exhibits. | 2008 Attendance Calendar Available

To help ease the administrative burden of tracking employee attendance, Rochester Business Alliance has posted a copy of the 2008 Attendance Calendar on our website. Click here for the website page with the download link. The one-page format allows employers to track an employee's time off daily while seeing attendance for the whole year at a glance. The Microsoft Excel format also lets you customize the various time-off categories. This is a great tracking tool for managers and supervisors as well as employees. | Revised I-9 Form Now Available
|
On Nov. 7, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the release of the updated I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form as well as an updated Employer Handbook. The main revisions of the form center around the documents that have been removed from the list of those acceptable for establishing identity and employment eligibility. After a highly successful and well attended 2007 event, the JOBSapalooza returns, a career fair that seeks to match the region's employers with the best and brightest of our local college students.
JOBSapalooza 2008, set for Jan. 3 at the DoubleTree Inn, 1111 Jefferson Road, Henrietta, offers employers the opportunity to recruit interns as well as new full- or part-time employees from a pool of students, upcoming graduates and area college alumni seeking to stay in the region.

RBA Hosts Trip to China - Informational Meeting Jan. 22

| ATHENA Keynote Speaker A Sure Hit

Jackie Kallen, author, speaker and boxing manager whose life story was portrayed by Meg Ryan in the Paramount Pictures production, Against the Ropes, will be the keynote speaker at the 2008 ATHENA Awards luncheon on Jan. 24.
